YouTube Module Settings Guide
Overview
The YouTube Module allows you to integrate your YouTube channel with your BetSync site, displaying your latest videos to your audience. This guide explains how to configure and manage the YouTube Module through its settings page.
Accessing the Settings
Log in to your BetSync admin panel
Navigate to "Modules" in the sidebar
Select "YouTube Module"
Configuration Options
Module Status
At the top of the settings page, you'll find a toggle switch to enable or disable the YouTube Module. When disabled, no YouTube content will be displayed on your site.
API Configuration
To connect your YouTube channel, you'll need to configure the following:
API Key: Your YouTube Data API v3 key (required to fetch video data)
Channel ID: Your YouTube channel ID
Getting Your API Key
Go to the Google Developer Console
Create a new project or use an existing one
Enable the "YouTube Data API v3"
Create credentials for an API key
Copy the API key into the settings form
Finding Your Channel ID
Go to your YouTube channel page
Your channel ID is in the URL:
youtube.com/channel/YOUR_CHANNEL_ID
Alternatively, you can use a YouTube channel ID finder tool online
Display Settings
Configure how your YouTube videos appear on your site:
Videos to Show: Number of videos to display (1-50)
Layout Type: Choose between:
Grid Layout: Videos shown in a grid pattern
List Layout: Videos shown in a vertical list
If you select the Grid Layout, you can adjust the number of grid columns (1-4).
Display Options
Customize what information appears with your videos:
Show Channel Info: Display your channel name and details
Show Description: Include video descriptions
Show Date: Display when each video was published
Show Views: Show view count for each video
Cache Settings
Control how frequently the module checks for new YouTube content:
Cache Duration: Set how long (in minutes) the system caches YouTube data before refreshing
Minimum: 5 minutes
Maximum: 24 hours (1440 minutes)
Recommended: 60 minutes for most cases
A longer cache time reduces API usage but means new videos take longer to appear on your site.
Testing and Saving
Test Connection
Before saving your settings, use the "Test Connection" button to verify your API key and Channel ID are working correctly. A successful test will display your channel name.
Save Changes
After configuring all settings to your preference, click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom of the page. Your settings will be applied immediately.
Troubleshooting
Connection Issues
If the test connection fails:
Verify your API key is correct and hasn't expired
Confirm your Channel ID is correct
Check that the YouTube Data API is enabled in your Google Developer Console
Ensure you haven't exceeded your API quota limit
Videos Not Displaying
If videos don't appear on your site:
Confirm the module is enabled
Verify your API configuration is correct
Check that you have public videos on your channel
Try increasing the cache duration if you've made recent API calls
Best Practices
API Usage: YouTube has daily quotas for API calls. Use a reasonable cache duration to avoid exceeding limits.
Performance: Displaying too many videos can impact page load times. Start with 6-8 videos.
Layout: Grid layout works best for visual content, while list layout provides more space for descriptions.
Mobile Experience: When using grid layout, 2 columns generally work best for mobile devices.
